Gault&Millau's review 2026

For those who only follow celebrity and Oscar news from afar, Austrian-born chef Wolfgang Johannes Topfschnig (aka "Puck") rose to fame in the 80s by opening his first restaurant in Los Angeles, and then organizing the Oscars gala dinner for over 15 years. Now present in China, Hungary and Turkey, the chef to the stars has also set up shop in the Saudi capital, on the edge of the embassy district, one of the city's chicest areas. Skilfully subdued lighting, live music on certain evenings and a willingly travelled cuisine, from charcoal-grilled camel kebab to fillet of Australian wagyu with foie gras sauce, wild mushrooms and spinach. We'd have liked the miso black cod (which takes a bit of everything in its stride) to have been cooked more precisely, but the wienerschnitzel "à la Wolfgang" is worth the detour with its warm potato salad and pickled cucumbers. Numerous stylish service staff, a surprising (but rich) "Basque cheesecake" and mango salad for dessert, a creation that clearly doesn't come from Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
