Gault&Millau's review 2026

Right in the heart of Riyadh, the Najd villages are a tribute to the culture of the Saudi highlands, which form the heart of the country. They are elegant replicas of old traditional village houses, with a remarkable sense of detail, cob walls and old twisted beams, period furniture, a charming central garden with water gutters, the peacefulness of the moment and the rare birdsong, and of course the majlis, the central architectural element of the Saudi meal. These small, private lounges lined with carpets and cushions are the place to be for receptions, where people eat on the floor around gargantuan platters, compiling in a simple, pared-down version the various classic recipes in the repertoire. Discover the chicken centerpiece with fragrant red and white rice, stir-fried lamb with onions, lamb with tomato and spices, khobz al tawa, a typical puff pastry, wheat porridge with onion and lime, tahini, samossas... While everything is available individually, platters for two or three are more recommended.
