Gault&Millau's review 2026

A retro dive into pre-modern France : Le Maschou, in the heart of the Diplomatic Quarter, does a pretty good job mimicking a 1960s provincial inn, with the paintings, terracotta tiles, fake beams, pink tablecloths, Guérande fleur de sel on the table, right down to the authentic bread basket (take a good look at it because the service removes it along with the grilled slices brought to every table before the dishes arrive). As for the menu itself, the imitation is a bit less convincing, in a Franco-Italo-American mix that's closer to our time : fresh salads, eggplant parmigiana with plenty of cheese, decent Angus beef with pale fries and a big baked potato with sour cream and chives. The generous crème caramel is nicely sweet, coming quite close to the standard, among the classic desserts (tiramisu, crème brûlée...). Good service, discreet and efficient (a bit of a wait to get started), drinks section as expected, waters, coffee, tea, and non-alcoholic wines.
