While the neighborhood is not exactly what you dream of - a huge avenue running alongside the subway in an area undergoing major construction, the atmosphere changes immediately once you enter Carbone, as if you've been transported back to the New York of the 1960s, the one seen in Scorsese's The Goodfellas. You're always on the lookout to see if Robert de Niro or Joe Pesci will cross the threshold of this moving Italian table, where nothing is missing: the herringbone parquet worn by the years, the large mirrors slightly pitted by time, the deep armchairs upholstered in crimson velvet and even the incredible dessert buffet that you're invited to discover at the end of the meal. Two toques for the minestrone, the superb macaroni al ragu and the veal escalope with parmesan, all of which testify to a real savoir-faire in the kitchen.
